  3. Lake Albert Nyanza (now Lake Mobutu Sese
  4. Seko) in central Africa, and discover that
  5. the river Nile flowed through it. He founded
  6. an agricultural colony in Ceylon (now Sri
  7. Lanka), built a railway across the Dobruja,
  8. and in 1861 set out to discover the source of
  9. the Nile. His wife, Florence von Sass,
  10. accompanied him. From 1869 to 1873 he was
  11. governor general of the Nile equatorial
  12. regions.
